What We Document

USA Weld Express provides material traceability and mill test report (MTR) documentation for code and inspected fabrication. From our Houston facility, we track the materials that go into your parts so their grade and origin are fully documented. For critical work, knowing exactly what a part is made of is as important as how it’s built. Material traceability links each component back to certified material with a documented chemistry and mechanical properties. As part of our complete quality system, traceability pairs with certified weld procedures, NDT, and our QA/QC program to document a fabrication end to end for code compliance. We serve oil and gas, chemical processing, and power generation clients across Texas who require documented material traceability on critical fabrication, delivered on time.

In Depth

Precision CNC Laser Cutting in Houston, Texas

Material traceability is how USA Weld Express proves what your fabrication is made of. With mill test reports and documented traceability, we link each part back to certified material — essential for code and inspected work.

What Is Material Traceability?

Material traceability is the documented ability to identify exactly what material a fabricated part is made from, and to trace it back to its certified source. It links each component to a mill test report that records the material’s grade, chemical composition, and mechanical properties. For code and critical work, this matters enormously: a pressure vessel or code pipe spool must be built from material with verified, documented properties, not just steel that looks right. Traceability provides that proof, closing the loop between the certified material and the finished part.

Mill Test Reports (MTRs)

A mill test report is the certificate issued by the material producer documenting a specific batch of material — its grade, chemistry, mechanical test results, and compliance with the applicable specification. The MTR is the foundational document of material traceability. We obtain and retain MTRs for the materials used in traceable fabrication and link them to the parts they become, so the documentation package for your project includes verifiable evidence of exactly what material was used and that it meets specification.

Why Traceability Matters for Code Work

In code and inspected fabrication, undocumented material isn’t acceptable. Pressure equipment, code piping, and critical structures must be built from certified material, and an inspecting authority or client needs proof of it. Material traceability provides that proof, demonstrating that the right grade with the right properties went into the fabrication. Without it, even perfectly built work can fail to meet code requirements simply because the material can’t be verified. Traceability protects both compliance and safety.

Tracking Material Through Fabrication

Traceability is more than filing a certificate — it’s maintaining the link between material and part as fabrication proceeds. As material is cut, formed, and welded into components, we track which certified material became which part, so the connection isn’t lost along the way. That disciplined tracking through the workflow is what makes traceability real and reliable, ensuring the finished fabrication can be tied back to its documented source material with confidence.

Part of Complete Documentation

Material traceability is one pillar of the full documentation package we provide for code and inspected work. Combined with certified weld procedures, welder qualifications, NDT results, and QA/QC records, MTRs complete the picture: not just how the fabrication was built and verified, but exactly what it was built from. That end-to-end documentation, all generated under one roof, gives you and any inspecting authority a complete, verifiable record of the fabrication.

Why Choose USA Weld Express

With 17 years of fabrication experience and disciplined material traceability, USA Weld Express documents exactly what your critical fabrication is made of. MTRs and traceability alongside certified procedures, NDT, and QA/QC mean full, code-ready documentation under one roof. When your project requires verified, documented material traceability delivered on schedule and priced right, our documentation stands behind it.
